Mission & Philosophy:  Ensuring reliability and safety of engineering systems and machinery, by adopting effective scientific methods of failure analyses and nondestructive evaluation.  Employing nondestructive testing is a useful approach, so also, developing improved sensors and methodology for detecting flaws will greatly help in achieving the goals.

• Capabilities: We have extensive test and measurement capabilities, for electrical engineering aspects and facilities for fabrication of electronic prototype units.

• Facilities & Equipment:    Currently we have some materials testing facilities, such as optical research microscope, optical macroscopes, Oscilloscopes, signal generators, pulse generators, data acquisition systems, sensors, transducers, etc..

• Expertise:  We have a team of engineers and scientists, with capabilities in different area of engineering and science. 

Business Summary:    Vadivel Research Institute is a new company with the goal of developing sensors and monitoring instruments for carrying out testing in engineering systems, with emphasis on nondestructive measurements.  Some of the activities of our interests are:

1. Measurement of residual stresses in metallic materials; Residual stresses in engineering parts can cause crack initiation and crack propagation.

2. Initiation and propagation of cracks in structures happen during the service or during the fabrication processes as well.

3. In-service monitoring of structures such as pressure vessels, bridge structures, etc., helps in preventing catastrophic failure during the service.

4. Reverse engineering of parts for legacy defense systems is very useful in restoring such defense units back in service.  The necessary spare parts for such units can be manufactured , only if we have the documents for remanufacturing.  Some of the legacy defense systems manufactured long ago, may not carry the necessary documents for manufacturing spare parts.  Therefore, this kind of approach helps in using such units back into useful service.

Customers:  Our expected customer base includes, defense laboratories, aircraft and navy bases, DOT, etc.
