Orienteering Details

  • Choice of 3 courses - Long 4.3k, Medium 2.7k, Orange 2.9k

  • Park underneath the motorway bridge on Pog Well Lane, S75 1PJ. What3Words lame.pitch.farm. Then follow the track past the farm and take the track to the right. Start point is What3Words: once.picked.scales

  • Start and Finish do not have any tapes. Controls have a short piece of orange tape and a disc with the control code.

  • The map is 2 – 3 years old - Brambles haven’t got any better since the last event and there has been a lot of thinning so there are quite a lot of brashing.

  • Do not try to follow the rides through the undergrowth areas, they are no better than the rest, the paths marked are OK though.

  • There are lots of areas of very pretty flowers, please do not trample on them – tiptoe through the daisies and enjoy the beauty and tranquillity – it is only training...

  • Wiggly small paths are downhill mountain bike trails (in the area to the east of the open undergrowth area), normally not that busy but they will be coming down very quickly, courses are planned cross them but if you do end up following one run to the side of them and be very, very, alert. Orange shouldn’t go anywhere in this section (control 6 is below the exit from the trail) but it may be a good idea to shadow your charges or at least emphasise that running on the little paths in that section is a very bad idea.

  • There is an additional section of mtb trail on the long but you wouldn’t be using it for navigation anyway – use the huge earth formations around the bell pits.
