SPECS (Sparta and Peloponnese Early Career Scholars) is an international network of early career researchers affiliated with the University of Nottingham’s Centre for Spartan and Peloponnesian Studies (CSPS). Our members investigate all aspects of the history, archaeology, and reception of ancient Sparta and the Peloponnese across every historical period.
On this website, you can explore our team, learn about the events we organise - including webinars and our biennial multi‑day international hybrid conference - and access our outreach initiatives in the 'Explore the Ancient Peloponnese' tab. These initiatives feature texts, educational materials, and commentaries produced by specialists, addressing topics such as mythology, peloponnesian archaeological sites, popular culture, and questions submitted by anyone interested in engaging with the group.
Through research, collaboration, and public‑facing activities, SPECS aims to foster global connections, support emerging scholars, and make expert knowledge on Sparta and the Peloponnese accessible to both academic and non‑academic audiences.
