Welcome!
In Spanish 3, we will be building on our previous knowledge of Spanish through grammar, reading, writing, video analysis, and cultural learning projects. We will refresh ourselves on what we've learned in previous years and then begin to delve into conditional and future tenses. We will have 1 project per semester. Our fall project will be a group project in which groups will research and present what they've learned about a region of Spain. Our spring project will be an individual project where each student selects a Spanish speaking country to research. In addition to selecting a country, students will select a city, holiday, political party, serious problem, education system, justice system, or anything similar that can be found within the country's culture.
I believe that learning a new language takes more than just understanding conjugations and vocab. I will plan for us to watch the Spanish TV show El Internado most every Friday, provided our class remains on track, and we have covered what we need to cover for the week.
Finally, what's Spanish class without a fiesta? We will have fiestas for DĂa de los Muertos, the winter season, and Cinco de Mayo. Again, this is provided we stay on track as a class. Additionally, fiesta days aren't just days to forget about Spanish. We will be watching themed videos, movies, and/or TV shows that will help us to better understand the significance of the holiday/occasion we are celebrating. We can also do crafts and bring themed food if we want!
My end of the year goals for the students of this class include:
Understand how and when to use the conditional and future tenses of Spanish, as well as execute them accurately in writing and speech.
Acquire new vocabulary and be able to use them accurately in writing and speech.
Be able to read with greater comprehension than the beginning of the school year.
Develop increased comprehension of Spanish as it is spoken and heard (after watching El Internado routinely).
Have greater insight on the regions of Spain, as well as on the similarities and differences between different Spanish speaking countries.
Be able to explain the significance and implications of the holidays and observances for which we have fiestas, as well as know how to critically examine other holidays and observances found in different countries of the world in the future.
