Reef Geoscience Group
Welcome
We are a group of scientists sharing an interest in the development of reefs and the corals that cover them. Our collective mission is to solve long-standing scientific problems, generate new knowledge, and make substantial advances in basic science. We are also charged with training students to do the same and, in the process, become scientists.
The Government pays our Universities, and they pay us, so our work is entirely funded by taxpayers. As a consequence, we have an unwritten obligation to provide open access to the knowledge we generate, and explain what it means and why it's important.
That is why we have built this website—it gives direct access to all the scientific papers, presentations and courses we've published on reefs, explains this new knowledge in an accessible way, and highlights why it's important. And to be honest, it also serves as a little advertising, both to attract new members with the same interests, and to showcase our students and their efforts. Somos un grupo de científicos que compartimos un interés en el desarrollo de los arrecifes y los corales que los cubren. Nuestra misión colectiva es resolver problemas científicos de gran alcance, generar nuevos conocimientos y realizar avances sustanciales en la ciencia básica. También estamos encargados de capacitar a los estudiantes para que hagan lo mismo y, en el proceso, llegar a ser científicos.

Subsurface Profiling with Geoelectric Tomography
Lalo and Mariana Gomez from Sisal put together this very nice video about the application of electrical resistance tomography to the modern reef structure at Punta Maroma. We don't know anyone who has applied this to reefs before, so it was kind of an experiment. But we did get some very interesting results that warrant further investigation.
