RANGAPARA COLLEGE


HISTORY

Rangapara College, which is located in Amaribari area, was established in 1979 reflecting the hopes and aspirations of the people for higher education. It was the result of the successful efforts of the leading citizens of Rangapara who wanted to have a centre of higher education in view of growing demands and the needs of better education.


The Department of Bengali mark it beginnings since the very inception of the college in the year 1979. It took itself the taste of teaching Bengali as MIL at the first stage.


It may be noted that the department of Bengali of Rangapara College introduced major courses in Bengali in the year 1991-1992. With the passage of time the department grew faster and expended its infrastructure base. The responsibilities of running the department went from Dr. Purabi Bhattacharjee the first lecturer in the department to Dr. Mili Bhattacharjee and now Mr. Rakesh Ch. Sarkar is heading the Department.

The Department follows both traditional & ICT based teaching method regularly in the Teaching-learning process. In addition to the traditional chalk and talk method classes, special interactive classes by applying group discussion, question-answer, demonstration method are arranged to encourage the students to acquire knowledge, skill and self confidence.

The department takes care to ensure a healthy interaction between the teachers and the taught to ensure successful learning. It reviews from time to time and tries to establish existing tradition and conventional ways of teaching learning technique to meet the new goals of learning. In addition to that the department holds sessions of seminar and tutorials by which close interaction is treated among the learners and the teachers. The subject to start to department insists on learning by close interaction and cordial relationship between the learner and the teachers engaged in academic pursuit. And faculty also take special attention paid to slow learners. The hidden creativity of the students is manifested through the publication of Departmental Magazine, College Magazine and Wall Magazines in the department.

VISION & MISSION

  1. To promote a value based education through the literary experience of Bengali humanistic literature.

  2. To contribute to the transformation of society through the ideals set by great Bengali writers and thinkers like Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam, Sukanta Bhattacharya, Buddhadeva Bose among others, by being socially conscious and responsible.

  3. To promote Multi-cultural and Multi-religious harmony through literature and literary activities.

  4. The main Vision of the department is enrichment of personality of the students. Literature specially build the morality of the students. Our prime vision is to make a good citizen and well educated person for our society. Along with this vision our mission is to prepare our students for this competitive era.


TEACHING METHODS

Teaching method is very necessary to teach any students, because without any method or schedule nobody can get any fruitful result. Each and every teacher should prepare a method or technique for the taught and in this way only the maximum result can come.

The method taken by the Bengali Department of Rangapara College are as follows:

  1. Study materials provided to the students.

  2. To enrich them different kinds of interaction sections between the students arranged by the teachers time to time.

  3. Before commencing of the session we the teachers of Bengali department prepared our teaching plan. Because without a proper teaching plan is not easy for a teacher to teach the students.

  4. Its our motto to teach the students in a calculative way, so that each and every students can understand us and can flourish in future life.

ACHIEVEMENT

The students of Bengali department have been showing good result in the final examinations. The pass percentage of the students of the department in the last examinations was almost 100% Some of the students have won prizes in various events of the college. And they also participated in UGC National Workshop, National & International Seminar/Webinar and North East NSS festival (under Govt. of India), National Youth Day etc. The Faculty member of the department are continuously participating in various FDP/Workshop/Seminar/Orientation programme & Refresher courses successfully.

Strength .

Weakness

  1. The majority of the students come from socio-economic weaker section.

  2. The lack of sufficient number of permanent teachers is a hurdle in the path of imparting quality education.

  3. Less no of feeder school incatchment areas.

Opportunities

  1. Scope for different jobs in Government as well as Private sector.

  2. Opportunities for higher education and Research in various Universities.

  3. Opportunity to extend multi cultural & multi lingual teaching in collaboration with other language department.

Challenges

  1. Department of Bengali had a challenge to increase the number of students in near future.

  2. As the majority of students are from economically backward, they can not manage to purchase even the text books.

  3. Motivating the students for academic progression is a challenge to the department.
