7th IPTRN Conference registration

Although registration for the 7th IPTRN Conference begins today, given the current uncertainty around the world, we will keep the registration period open until mid-February. We really look forward to welcoming you to Ushuaia in April.

What are the main ‘ingredients’ of the Conference?

In light of this Conference’s core theme: ‘Polar tourism and communities of practice: experiences, knowledge building, challenges and opportunities’, apart from the academic sessions with paper presentations, we will draw from the experience of Ushuaia as a gateway to maritime tourism bound for Antarctica to run workshops with members of the local community, from both public and private spheres, linked to Antarctic tourism from different outlooks. This is meant to open a path of dialogue allowing us to explore different matters and current issues concerning polar tourism and its relation to gateway cities and local communities.

Likewise, IPTRN study tours will take place, as they have become a signature and enriching activity of our conferences. We will approach the landscape of Tierra del Fuego from a range of field activities, in order to share experiences and discuss issues about tourism in and about polar regions. At the same time, these study tours will be the opportunity to learn about the connections between Ushuaia/Tierra del Fuego and Antarctica from different dimensions.

This new IPTRN conference will allow us to meet again, but in a special context that has marked different scenarios for tourism in general and for tourism in the polar regions in particular. We look forward to running the meeting and sharing new learnings and future challenges.
