2019's Gorillas used the program's first ever series loss at the hands of rival Oklahoma State and sweep at the hands of DI powerhouse Iowa as fuel for a late season run into an at-large bid in the Great American Region playoffs. Going 4-1 to win the region, PSU defeated #5 Creighton in the opening round and rebounded from a second round loss to Dayton by taking down the Bluejays a second time, and defeating Dayton twice on Championship Sunday. In the 2019 World Series, the 8 seed Gorillas upset top-seeded Binghamton 2-0, before hammering Wisconsin 11-0, topping West Virginia 9-4, and shutting out Air Force in the national title game.
