Again this fall, students at Nightingale Elementary will be taking part in CBC's Canadian Music Class Challenge

The Canadian Music Class Challenge is a nationwide initiative put forth by the CBC each year to promote the exploration and celebration of Canadian talent in music rooms all across Canada.

Each year the CBC releases a list of songs eligible to be covered as a part of this challenge. They invite music teachers all across the country to have their students learn and perform a Canadian song from that list. It is a great opportunity for practical, engaging learning, as well as providing schools a chance to win prize funds for their programs.

The video performances will be conducted within BC's health and safety guidelines, while also considering the BCMEA's Guidance for Music Classrooms standards.

THE SONGS

Little Spruce

A sweet song from BC's very own Rachelle van Zanten. It talks about the importance of caring for each other, and our world.

This song will be sung by the K-3 students from Divisions 5-12.

For those looking to practice at home, the song is recorded 5 steps lower than we'll be singing it. This recording is in the key of G, and we'll bring it up to the key of C.

Somehow Someway

Somehow Someway was penned by the winner of CBC's 2022 Searchlight competition Chad Price. We will be interpreting this song a little differently than performed, though will stay true to the spirit of the piece. The lyrics talk about looking to the future and overcoming the obstacles and insecurities of the present.

It will be performed by grade 4-7 students from Divisions 1-5.
