Social Studies

Option 1- Current Events- Links below for help.

Each week students are allowed to turn in one current event report for extra credit.  The report must be typed and all information is to be filled out in complete sentences.  This report must be done in paragraph form.  The current event must be from the current week's news.  A file can be found in Google Classroom. No forms will be given in class.   Forms will only be accepted on Friday unless otherwise directed by the teacher.  No more than one per week, any missing answers on the form will make the form null and void,  a maximum of 5 points will be given per article.

Option 2 - Pop Culture Points

History is all around us. Any time you find a history reference in pop culture whether it is a movie, TV show, video game, comic, a song, or a billboard bring me the title and a description and you'll score one point for each one.  You may only use a pop culture reference once. Pop culture points are unlimited.

Option 3- The World from A to Z Friday Questions

For 5 points a week, you may answer the 10 questions on the World from A to Z website that are posted each Friday.  You will need to type the answers on a Google Doc, print and turn in to me the following Monday for extra credit.  Any questions not answered make the assignment incomplete and therefore will not be graded.

Literature

Write an original story incorporating 20 vocabulary words from the current unit/novel.  This must be typed, font size 12, all words need to be used correctly, each vocabulary word must be underlined/highlighted, and all grammar and punctuation must be accurate.  If there are more than three errors on the assignment, it will not be graded and will need to be redone and resubmitted.  This can be done once a trimester for a maximum of 30 points.

Religion

Respond to an event related to religion that was in the news within the past week. www.huffingtonpost.com/religion is a great source, but it doesn't have to be your only source for events that relate to religion. Identify the religion and ideas at work in the event; consider how it has impacted the religion and how religion played into the decisions made or actions taken in the event.   Your response needs to be a half page or more typed, font size 12,  and must answer all prompts listed in this description.  Any questions that are not answered makes the extra credit null and void. You can do no more than three of these in a trimester for 10 points each.
