"Kin Makers” (working title) is a streaming reality series that seeks to make (a) real life speculative famil(y/ies) based on making good relations and non-natal/non-biological kin. This project seeks to navigate and document alternative forms of kin making.

This is an opportunity to explore on camera the ways of making family beyond the nuclear model. Dating shows and apps allow you to find partners but this show is where you will come if you are looking for family. “Kin Makers” documents the journ(ey/ies) of making (an) alternative famil(y/ies). In addition to individual testimonial-style interviews, to-be-family members will be filmed getting to know one another in date-like scenarios and in group discussions. Ideal applicants are willing to travel to NYC/Brooklyn 1-2x per week for production.

You may already have a chosen family but maybe you are looking for a place to seriously build a future cohabitation based on compatibility, caregiving needs and desires, lifestyle and psychological work. You will state your terms and learn about other people who could potentially be the loves or platonic kin of your life.

If you could make a non biological family, what would it be? What do you want? Do you find absurdity in the ways you might have tried to fit into normative ways of making family or relating? In addition to the potential for real love and platonic lifelong relationships, making this family may be absurd too but in a different way and you will be a part of determining that.

The cast will explore critical relations, non biological kin making, non settler relations and decolonizing relationships (referencing the work of scholars/theorists Kim Tallbear, Donna Haraway, Sophie Lewis and more) as they make long term cohabitating group(s), or (a) famil(y/ies).

With the help of the “Kin Makers” Team, the cast will explore what the future of family can be while embarking on a journey to form a family of their own with their fellow cast members. While carefully getting to know one another, cast members will learn from one another and from experts, they will unpack their own psychology and collectively find levity in reinventing the family models that may have been imposed on them. Artists and comically-inclined performers/individuals are encouraged to apply.

Initial cast will be invited to participate in casting more family members.
