KC Urban Renewal Engineering (KCURE) Fellow Program
Streamlining the UMKC transfer process for civil & mechanical engineering students
Project Mission
Funded by the National Science Foundation, the KCURE Fellow Scholarship Program provides financial support, mentorship, and advising to students who either plan to transfer to the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) or have transferred to encourage students’ engagement on campus. Fellows are supported as they undertake urban renewal-focused research and internships. Further, Fellows are mentored as they consider graduate training opportunities.
KCURE Fellow scholarships are available to MCC and UMKC Civil or Mechanical Engineering students who have earned a minimum GPA of 2.0. Scholarships are available for 2 years at MCC and for 2 years at UMKC. To be eligible, students must demonstrate financial need as determined by a FAFSA, must be a US citizen or National, and be enrolled full-time.

Students engage in undergraduate research experiences to prepare them for graduate school and careers
Students are provided with advising specific to the transfer process along with academic advising throughout their time at MCC and UMKC

Project Objectives
Objective 1: Increase the average number of low-income, meritorious transfer students who successfully continue to the 3rd year of the UMKC CME degree program from 9 to at least 15 per year.
Objective 2: Increase the average number of low-income, meritorious transfer students who successfully graduate with an UMKC CME degree from 11 to at least 17 per year.
Objective 3: Increase the number of transfer students who are awarded NSF Graduate Student Fellowships from 0 per year to 2 per year.
Objective 4: Instill within the UMKC CME department a culture that facilitates the full participation and advancement of low-income, meritorious transfer students in the UMKC CME department.
