Scuba dive to investigate and identify two wrecks. One may be 16th century, the other 18th or 17th century. Both are off-shore from our dive headquarters in Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic.

Who may join our archaeological team?

Any scuba diver who has at least the PADI Advanced Open Water Dive Certification (or equivalent) and is longing for the diving adventure of a lifetime.

What is the typical wreck dive like?

Most of the wrecks we scuba dive are located in relatively shallow water less than 30 feet (9 meters) deep. We do not "enter" any of the wrecks. At the wreck site we typically begin by removing sand and mud deposits from the area and then we can start recovering artifacts from the site which are brought back to our lab for cleaning and identification.

A few of the identified wrecks near Monte Cristi:

  • The Pipe Shipwreck (Dutch merchant ship, sank mid to late 1600's)
  • The Tile Shipwreck (French cargo ship, sank c 1720)
  • Le Dragon (French, 18 gun, warship, sank January 1783)
  • Le Casimir (French merchant ship, 67ft long, 20ft wide, cargo: 120 tons of perfume, wine, porcelain, silk, linen, sank April 1829)
