Volunteer with us...

in a variety of ways that are fun, align with your interests and that enhance the experience of Park visitors. Some people prefer to volunteer by themselves to pick up litter, monitor bird activity, remove tree limbs, etc. Many other people like to work in groups on some of the activities mentioned below. Whatever your preference, please send an email to friendsofpeebles@gmail.com with your volunteer interests and suggestions.

I Love My Park Day

is usually the 1st Saturday of May. This is a State-wide event at which volunteers participate in many different projects to improve their parks and has drawn great interest at Peebles Island State Park for the past few years.

Trail Maintenance and Improvement

is an ongoing activity that entails general trail clean up and improvements, such as adding benches, walkways over wet areas, signage, reinforcing the trail beds, etc.

Programs for Visitors

are typically 1-2 hour (sometimes longer) events at which a presenter will give a talk on a specific topic or lead an activity for the public. Examples of past programs are gardening, loons, honey bees, and Park history. Suggestions for new programs and volunteers to help plan and hold the events are always welcome.

Visitor Center Enhancement

is a major project of the Friends in partnership with Park staff to develop the Visitor Center into an educational and entertaining resource for visitors and the community. Volunteers will assist with research and the creation of exhibits to incorporate panel displays, hands on exhibits, electronic kiosks, and videos in the presentation of the history, natural habitat and beauty of Peebles Island State Park.

Ambassadors

meet and greet visitors to the Park. First-time visitors to the Park have many questions about the trails, history of the Park, surrounding communities, etc. Ambassadors assist visitors at the trail head or on the trails by answering their questions and by a simple welcome to the Park.
