About the  Festival

Event Information

Fleurieu Folk Festival is South Australia's premier folk music festival that presents a weekend of music concerts and sessions, dance, workshops, open mic concerts, folk jams, children’s entertainment, stalls, and more. The Fleurieu Folk Festival is South Australia’s largest folk music festival.

Set in the picturesque town of Willunga on the Fleurieu Peninsula, every October, we transform Willunga’s Recreation Park into a global musical village that includes several covered venues, multicultural food and craft stalls, a festival bar, on-site camping and facilities, a dance stage, a children’s festival, and music enthusiasts playing together in every niche and corner.  We even provide a special venue - Cafe AcousticA,  just for people that want to come along and play their own music and a Busk Stop for buskers!

Fleurieu Folk Festival has proudly received the City of Onkaparinga Community Event of the Year award five times: in  2014, 2016, 2020, 2022 and 2024.

Promoting young South Australian musicians has always been a major priority for the Fleurieu Folk Festival. Each year, the Festival nominates an outstanding folk musician aged between 14 and 25 to represent South Australia in Folk Alliance Australia's youth showcase concerts at the National Folk Festival in Canberra. The aim of the Youth Awards is to boost the profile of young performers and introduce, support and encourage them to the next level of their development.

Willunga

Fleurieu Folk Festival is held at Willunga Recreation Park Main Road, Willunga SA

Willunga is an historic township that was established only three years after the settlement of South Australia. The picturesque town is located 47 km south of Adelaide and just 6.5 km south of McLaren Vale.

Willunga is full of interesting old buildings and great shops, pubs and restaurants. And every Saturday, including during the Festival, you can enjoy the Willunga Farmers Market, which is the regional hub for the community and visitors to gather and buy fresh, local and seasonal produce in the McLaren Vale region. More than 80 farmers and artisan food producers from the region sell their fresh produce; rain or shine.

Dance

What’s music without dancing?  Dance is an integral part of the Fleurieu Folk Festival. Every year the Festival presents a wide range of dance performances, family bush dances, Morris dancing and dance demonstrations and related workshops.   Be sure to check your program for details.

Join in!

It's not all about sitting and listening either – bring along your instrument and your voice. Join a jam session or start your own, or sign up for a blackboard concert. Informal sessions will be happening all weekend in the Session Bar, Cafe AcousticA (a special marquee for participatory music jams) and elsewhere, including in any of the many workshops throughout the weekend.

We provide the venue and the sound system, you provide the talent!  Get Involved!

Planning your festival

Fleurieu Folk Festival is unique in that all venues are either indoor or under a marquee. Not only that, but there is seating in all events. And the festival area is paved. So there’s no cooking under the sun, freezing in the rain, hauling chairs around or wallowing in the mud. We take your comfort seriously!

How to get there
