What is CRP?

CRP stands for the Committee for Re-Electing the President. They first organized in the late 1970 and opened their office in D.C. in 1971. CRP was also nicknamed CREEP at the time, for to CREEP means to move slowly and carefully to avoid detection.

During the Watergate investigation, CRP was involved in giving $500,000 to the Watergate burglars as "Hush Money".

With the payment of half a million, the Watergate burglars remained silent, gave false testimonies in court, and committed perjury or lying in court after taking a oath of honesty. Because the burglars were paid mercenaries of the CREEP Committee, they were unhelpful in giving information about what happened on the night the Watergate DNC HQ was burglarized.

The CRP were also tied to the "White House Plumbers", a similar organization that prevented leaks of information like the Pentagon Papers. The acts of the CRP helped turn burglary into a scandal powerful enough to impeach the President of the United States. The general public became even more distrustful of the Federal Government following the exposure of CRP in the July 17, 1972 Watergate hearings.
