Overview
The Esports team meets after school to practice and prepare for competitions in several different video games, including Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Chess, Tetris, Rocket League, and Mario Kart 8. We mainly use the Nintendo Switch but are working on expanding to PC. We compete against middle schools across all islands of Hawaii through the Hawaii Esports League.
Since the start of the Esports Program at our school in 2020, our students have placed 3rd in Mario Kart (MSEL, 2020) as well as 1st and 2nd in Tetris (HSEL Fall, 2023)! They have also qualified for playoffs for SSBU and finals for Chess and Tetris.
Esports Team History
The Esports program was started with the help of former office admin Mr. Kuster and current staff member Ms. Anuhea in 2020 to provide students with sporting competitions during the shutdowns. Mr. Hall now serves as the head coach, bringing expertise in SSBU (which he competed in competitively in college!) among many other eSports games!
