2023   Elected Fellow of the Network Science Society (class 2023): “For  significant contributions to network science and its applications, including seminal works on geometric and spatial networks, chemical graph theory, as well as for his outstanding editorial work.”

2019   Elected SIAM Fellow (class 2019) for "for outstanding contributions to mathematical chemistry and network science".

2019   Elected Honorary Member of the Italian Society of Chaos and Complexity.

2014   Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award given to 'scientists of outstanding achievement and potential to the UK', by the Royal Society of London.
