I am Teresa Bonham and I am the instructor for this class. I am a real person teaching this class and I will guide you throughout the term and I will do my best to support you. You've got this!
Please watch my short video to learn a little about me and then explore this page to learn more about the course.
I look forward to seeing you online soon.
This is an 18-week course.
101 is an on-campus, in-person course and 101S is a hybrid (50% in person/50% online) course
The course begins on August 12 and ends on December 5.
Midterm is October 2.
Final Exam for English 101: Monday, December 9, 10:15 am-12:15 pm
Final Exam for 101S: Wednesday, December 11, 10:15 am-12:15 pm
English 101 meets M & W 9:30-11:20 in LA 15
English 101S meets W 11:30-12:20 in LA 15 and one hour a week online.
Designate at least two days a week to work on the course material. Plan to spend at least four hours a week just on the course material.
Compose your assignments and discussion posts using a Word document and save as you compose. It is very upsetting for the internet to crash and to lose all work because it was created in Canvas.
Read all announcements. Often times, there are important messages.
Download Grammarly and use it as you compose your work. Use the free version, that's what I use.
If you need help understanding something, just ask.
If you are having problems that impact your classwork, email me. I may be able to help. If I cannot help, I may know someone who can help. I mean this. OC has all kinds of support services.
I weigh grades, so different assignments hold different value for your overall grade.
I use the gradebook in Canvas to house your grades, but I do not make the final grade visible to you throughout the term because it may give you a false grade. Below you will see the value for each item.
To pass English 101, you must turn in all essay assignments. This is a composition course, after all.
