A little about me.......

My name is Dallas Hartwell and I am a current Social Science educator (World History and APUSH) at Terra Linda High School and Freshman Head Coach at Marin Catholic High School. I was raised in rural Nebraska and enlisted in the Army after my 17th birthday (serving in such countries as South Korea, Germany and Afghanistan).

After graduating from the U. of Nebraska with a degree in Political Science, I spent three years as the Varsity Head Football coach at Strathcona High School and worked for the Legislative Assembly of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. I completed my Teaching Credential at Sacramento State in the spring of 2019 and began working at Terra Linda immediately after.

I find my career in the Terra Linda community to be unbelievably rewarding. I have a genuine passion for education and coaching. I wake up every morning enthusiastic about tackling new challenges and building upon previous success.

My wife (Becca) and I moved to California in late 2017 and have two children (Alice, 5 and Amelia, 2).

Football Background

Growing up in rural Nebraska in the 90s, I developed a great passion for the game and played throughout my entire youth, earning recognition as an All-District and All-Region athlete in high school on a very successful program. I earned a football grant at Doane College before eventually transferring.

During my University years, I pursued coaching and spent two seasons as an intern with the United Football League's Omaha Nighthawks and a few seasons coaching middle and high school.  After moving to Canada to help my wife pursue her PhD, I was hired as the varsity head coach at Strathcona (Scona) High School.

The program had not won a game in over a season and was in major need of equipment overhaul. After assembling a high quality and high character staff, we rallied our community together to bring Lord football back to prominence. In three seasons, we led our athletes to three playoff appearances and two city championships (including an undefeated 2017 season). We helped several players earn opportunities to play after high school, including a starting lineman at Mississippi State and a two time All-Canadian center.

After moving to California, I pursued my teaching credential before being blessed with an opportunity as the head varsity coach at Terra Linda (TL). I arrived at TL during a transition period. The youth program in the community had folded a few years prior and the JV program had lacked enough players to play a full season the year prior. Only a handful of those JV players would remain enrolled at the school and playing football.

However, we recruited our hallways while promoting dual sports in order to bolster our rosters. In 2019, we had a 3-1 Division 5 record to make us playoff eligible. During our Covid season, we finished with a winning record despite starting first year players at QB, RB, WR, DL and DB.

In 2023, I joined the Marin Catholic as the Freshman Head Coach. We helped 15 players score their first high school touchdowns while becoming the first MC Frosh team in nine years to score over 40 points. We accomplished this feat four times on the year.
