Ride with us

Riding with CSSH

CSSH organises club rides of various different types, including both on and off road cycling. All members are welcome to attend, but the basics remain the same.

Why ride with us?

There are huge benefits from riding as part of our club

  • Social - rides are an opportunity to meet other cyclists and learn from more experienced riders. Longer weekend rides will often stop at a cafe

  • Fun - group rides are an opportunity to enjoy the benefits of cycling

  • Safety - for those riders with aspirations to compete it is essential to learn group riding skills before entering a race

  • Fitness - riding with others is likely to involve riding at a different pace to solo rides, which can help with overall fitness

  • Exploring - when riding with others, you have the opportunity to learn new routes, particularly if you are new to the area

  • Road Skills - riding as part of a group helps to develop skills which can make your cycling technique safer and more efficient

What To Bring On A Ride

Essential

  • A bike in good working order

    • This needs to be appropriate for the ride you are joining. We are happy for riders to use e-bikes on group rides

  • Something to eat

    • The amount required depends on how far/hard you ride but its always worth bringing something.

  • Drink

  • Pump and tyre levers

  • Spare inner tubes

  • Basic tools or a multi tool

  • Mudguards

    • These need to be long enough to stop others getting covered in mud and spray. If you don't have mudguards in wet conditions, please do not be offended if you are asked to sit on the back of the group.

Extras

  • 1. Money for a cafĂ© stop

  • 2. Mobile phone

  • 3. Rain cape or extra layer

  • 4. Puncture repair kit

Things to leave behind

  • Headphones/Earphones

    • Your safety and that of other riders in the group depends upon you being alert, which is not possible with headphones

  • Tri-bars

    • These are unsafe for riding in groups and banned in British Cycling massed start competitions

Helmets

"British Cycling recommends wearing a correctly fitted helmet while cycling however we also support the right of each individual to choose whether or not to accept this recommendation and recognise the limit to the protection that helmets provide."
