Denture is an important solution to tooth loss. In today’s time denture is also called false teeth. These are not like the old people wore. dentures are more comfortable and natural now in looks as compared as they were in the past. If you will not take proper care of your dentures, many problems can occur to your tooth.

The persons who wear dentures, it is very necessary for them to keep their mouth clean and healthy. Fitted dentures should be worn. Loose dentures can cause any problem to your mouth.

Following problems can occur if you wear loose dentures:

  • Irritation in mouth and gums.
  • Problem in eating and speaking.
  • Dentures will move around in your mouth.
  • Any infection in mouth.

If you are facing any problem with your dentures, visit your dentist right away. Your dentist will tell you whether your dentures need to be adjusted or replaced.

Following is some ways to treat different denture problems:

Make sure your dentures are not loose

With the passage of time, your gums and bones will change. Because of that your dentures may get loose. When dentures get loose, they need to adjust, modified, replaced and fitted by your dentist. Do not try to fit your dentures by yourself.

Talk gradually and slowly

When the dentures are placed in your mouth, it is hard to talk for you. You cannot utter some words easily. But, you do not need to worry. Be patient and practice to speak gradually and slowly. Do not talk more and loud with others. If you speak loudly, there are chances your dentures can move around and need to be fix again by dentist. In some starting days smile gently, eat soft food, otherwise the dentures can easily replace.

You may come across some troubles while eating food in some starting days of denture. To get rid of this problem you may have to follow some basic tips, which are mentioned below:

  • Eat soft food.
  • Take small bites.
  • Try to drink more and avoid chewing and eating.
  • Eat eggs and yogurt.
  • Do not eat sticky food.
  • Avoid fruits and food which contains citrus.

Try to use denture adhesive

Use denture adhesives that will help your dentures to stay in place and make them feel more protective. But, denture adhesives should not be used to fix old or poorly fitted dentures. When you use denture adhesive, follow some instructions carefully which are mentioned below:

Use small amount of adhesive

Denture adhesive are the linked to mouth infection. Some people may suffer mouth infection. Such as:

Cheilitis. cheilitis is a painful infection that can cause inflammation and cracking at the corners of the mouth. The reason of cheilitis is overgrowth of yeast in your mouth because of denture adhesive. Yeast may accumulate in moist areas of your mouth and can cause infection. So, to prevent this infection, use small amount of adhesive and fit your dentures properly.

Stomatitis . This is another infection that is caused by too much of yeast and plaque in the mouth. The symptoms of stomatitis are small red bumps on the roof of your mouth and general mouth redness under your upper denture. You may not know these symptoms first. But, when you notice these symptoms, visit your dentist right away and fix your dentures.

Both diseases, cheilitis and stomatitis can be cured with medicine and proper denture care.

Remove your dentures before sleeping

Always remove off your dentures before going to bed. But, if your dentist advises you to wear while sleeping, in that case only you can wear for a specific time.

Cleaning of your dentures

Clean your dentures daily. Soak them in water and add denture cleaner in it for overnight. The, clean them with soft bristled brush.

Cleaning of your mouth

Clean and massage your gums, tongue, and roof of your mouth two times a day. Before placing your dentures and after removing them off.

Storing of your dentures

Store your dentures in a denture cleaner or Luke warm water. Do not use boil water, it will destroy the shape of your dentures.

Avoid the use of toothpicks

Toothpicks can harm your dentures. So, avoid use of toothpicks after eating meal.
