Frequently Asked Questions

What does it cost to be a member?

The cost is $60 per annum plus $7 per day green fees or if you already pay Croquet NSW affiliation fees via another club the cost is $10 per annum plus $7 per day green fees.

Can I try croquet to see if it suits me and can I borrow a mallet?

Yes we welcome prospective members to give croquet a go and we'll supply a mallet for you to use. We'll even give you some lessons. There's no charge for any but after a few visits we expect you to join our club.  We're happy to continue letting you borrow a mallet for up to 6 months but you won't be able to take it home or use it to play at another club.

Where can I buy my own mallet?

We have a small number of 2nd hand mallets for sale at a cost of $40 to $80.  Alternatively one of our members can custom make you a mallet for around $175.  There are other options available and we're happy to provide further information.

Are visitors welcome?

Most definitely and we can lend you a mallet if you haven't brought your own. A days play will cost you $7 and includes morning/afternoon tea.

Does the Club hold regular meetings?

The club holds monthly meetings at 12:00pm on the first Thursday of each month (except January). The AGM is held on the first Thursday in August every year.

Will I have a handicap and how is it used?

Games can be played with or without using the handicap system.  When using the handicap then the player with the highest handicap is allowed extra shots so long as the shots do not score a hoop. Eg player A on handicap 12 is playing B on handicap 9 then player A is allowed 3 extra shots during the game.  There are some simple rules as to when these extra shots can be used.

Are there any illegal croquet shots?

There certainly are and they are fully discussed in the rules for each game.  Common ones are playing out of sequence, playing the wrong ball, touching any ball with the mallet when its not your turn, crush shots (where the mallet, ball and hoop are all in simultaneous contact) and 'double taps' where your mallet strikes the ball more than once.

Are there any dress requirements?

Yes. Club colours are White & Royal Blue whether tops or bottoms. It's compulsory to wear club colours for social and competition play. We do have the occasional mufti day. Whilst we prefer your headwear and footwear is also in club colours this is not compulsory. You will be required to wear flat soled, closed in footwear unless there's a medical reason you cannot do so eg. you're recovering from a foot or leg injury.

Is Coaching available

Yes there is. Contact the Club Captain or your Games Manager - check Committee Members  for contact info.
