An employer that gets its information on applicant criminal records directly from the state's Criminal Offender Reform Index (CORI) database - rather than from a third party vendor, such as a firm that conducts background checks for employers - enjoys certain legal protections. Is an agency required by MGL c. 6 §. 171A to maintain a CORI Policy; all personnel authorized to conduct criminal history background checks and/or to review CORI information will review, and will be thoroughly familiar with, the educational and relevant training materials regarding CORI laws and regulations made available by the DCJIS. I have been conducting background checks for applicants by using the CORI system available from the Massachusetts Department of Criminal Justice Information Services (DCJIS).
