The site is located in the bay of İnciraltı/İzmir. Aim of the project was to analyze the area in many ways, identify what is lacking and create functional multipurpose programs in order to meet the needs of the site.

I proposed a framework that combines different time periods, old and new elements on the site. This creates the theme which is ‘Harmony’. My priority was to preserve the existing structures and build more comfortable and welcoming activity areas around them. Old elements were reorganized with modern aspects, in order to create functional and clean spaces.

The complex consists of 3 main buildings; circular maze, main building and secondary building. Masses are placed by considering invisible lines and hierarchy. There is a contrast between the curved and angular forms. Priority of the design is to maintain the continuity of the circulation.

It is a place that addresses the 5 main senses as well as many others. This complex is also designed for the disabled people and for their needs. All spaces are placed considering the visual range. It is very important for deaf people since they need to see the people they are communicating with, in order to understand theirs body languages and mimics. That is why there are wide hallways, lots of transparency and no blind corners. A ramp going directly to the terrace is placed for the people with wheelchairs.

People walk around on front spaces to the center while experiencing different smells from the nature. On the center space they can smell the time. It’s a half sphere shaped room has 8 meters in diameter which’s smell is always changing during day. That means if you know which smell represent what time you can learn the time by only smelling.

On the secondary building there is a blind cinema. Movies are not designed for blind people, but it doesn’t mean that they can’t enjoy the experience. They can listen the sounds and conversations but as I researched even then it is quite hard to follow the story line. That is why there is a narrator that tells the story while movie is shown and makes it easier for them to understand. This room has better air conditioners, better sound system and acoustics in order to make the experience more realistic.

The building is a concrete structure and has 15 columns (and 2 elevators) which have 60x120 cm. In addition, beams have 30x50 cm.
