Workshop: Assertion and Proof (WAP 2019)

Lecce (Italy), 12-14 September 2019

The theme of the workshop is the notion of assertion and its logical treatment. We aim to bring together scholars interested in the analysis of the logical notion of assertion and other related notions such as inference, proof, argument, meaning of logical constants that may receive an assertion-based interpretation.

Following the 2016 workshop How to Say 'Yes' or 'N0': Logical Approaches to Modes of Assertion and Denial, in the present workshop we will analyse the inferential role of assertion, often assumed as the external counterpart of the internal act of judgement, and its relations with the notion of proof.

The Call for Papers provides the background, research questions, and instructions to submit your abstract. There will be a special issue of Journal of Applied Logics - IfCoLoG Journal of Logics and their Applications with selected contributions.

Promoted by the Charles S. Peirce Society, there will be a satellite workshop "Peirce on Assertion" devoted to enhance our understading of the notion of assertion in Peirce's writings and its contemporary relevance in logic, pragmatics and communication.
