Are you a musical theatre person? As in: do you act in, write, direct, or even just really love musicals? Or are you looking for something different to do on a Sunday night?
7 train script circle is a new script circle for musicals based in Queens. The goal of our group is to foster community and artistry around a shared love of musical theatre.
Singing is completely optional and not required! If you would like to sing, it would be best to learn a couple songs, as signing up is first come first serve. We provide recordings and lyrics for the shows on the "Learning Materials" portion of this website, or you can click here.
Anyone over the age of 18 is welcome. This is a queer-led reading series. There is no tolerance for hate of any kind. The venue is indoors, with stairs leading up and down to the room where we will be reading.
How does it work? (AKA, will I be asked to sing in front of everyone?!??!?!?)
Come at 6:30PM to buy food/drink and sign up to sing 1-2 songs if you'd like and if you know them. Signing up is first come, first serve. Please bring a charged device with Wi-Fi access so you can access the script. If you RSVP, the script will also be emailed to you ahead of time.
At 7 PM we will have a brief vocal warmup and all learn about two minutes of ensemble music from the show (aka no solos!) together. (Feel free to just listen if you'd like!)
Then, speaking roles will be cast and we will start reading through the show. The music director will play the soundtrack as we get to songs. If you signed up to sing a song, you can sing it solo (regardless of whether you are reading the lines for that role). If no one signed up for a particular song, we will either all sing together or just listen. We will all sing the ~2 minutes of music we learned together when it comes up (again, feel free to just listen if you'd like!)
When the reading is done, we'll talk about the show for a bit, and that's that!
Can I get involved in the process of picking shows and facilitating meetings?
Yes! Stay on the lookout for Google forms for signing up to either music or music direct readings, and for suggesting shows. Those will eventually be found on our "get involved/contact" page, or by clicking here.
We are open to both canonic and lesser-known shows as long as the script and recorded soundtrack can be accessed. We hope to expand to new and original work soon.
Also coming soon is a Discord, which will allow us to facilitate community outside of readings! The link will be available at in-person readings.
You can also click on the "get involved/contact" link above to subscribe to our mailing list.
