Mathematics in the street 2023 website

Why international? The popularization of mathematics is a global need. Gauss said that "mathematics is the queen of all sciences", Galileo that "the language in which the Universe is written is mathematics", and still many people underestimate mathematics.

Organizing the activity at different points unites mathematical enthusiasts*, makes a local call to protect mathematics, and in turn, allows the international mathematical community to unite in a common goal: to disseminate mathematics.

"Mathematics knows no races or geographic boundaries; for mathematics, the cultural world is one country" – David Hilbert

Why March 12? International Mathematics Day is celebrated on March 14. Being Tuesday, many people have to comply with their routines, and also, there are several activities planned in time for that day. Mathematics in the street is an activity that is usually carried out on a Sunday, and that is why we decided to choose this very arithmetic date for the activity.

"Why are numbers beautiful? It's like asking why is Beethoven's Ninth Symphony beautiful. If you don't see why, someone can't tell you. I know numbers are beautiful. If they aren't beautiful, nothing is" – Paul Erdős

How to take part? You can search the Map for the activity closest to you, and if not, you can organize it yourself

And after March? It is very likely that it will be repeated, but first we must think about this activity

* The activity can be organized by any group of math fans anywhere in the world
