Programme Objectives of the Bachelor Degree in Media Studies


The Bachelor Degree in Media Studies aims to


  • Educates students to think critically, communicate clearly, and collaborate effectively as they apply the fundamental communication principles in day today encounters in personal, social and professional life.

  • Makes a significant contribution towards the supply of skilled professional manpower in print, electronic and new media to create an intellectual reservoir to meet the growing demands of the media field.

  • Provide the notable level of education in communication and media and to produce competent, creative and responsible professionals.

  • Promotes a spirit of free and objective enquiry in the fields of knowledge of communication and media with strong ethical values.

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)


Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Media Studies Graduates will be able to:


PLO 1: Demonstrate problem-solving skills in the area of communication and media studies;

PLO 2: Develop arguments and make sound judgments in accordance with basic communication theories and concepts;

PLO 3: Present information, ideas, and concepts efficiently and effectively;

PLO 4: Apply knowledge and understanding of concepts and principles of communication and media;

PLO 5: Apply efficient techniques in collect, analyze and interpret qualitative and quantitative data.

PLO 6: Acquire new competencies that will enable them to assume major responsibilities in the media field;

PLO 7: Demonstrate writing and reporting techniques necessary for employment in professional media;

PLO 8: Undertake further training and develop additional skills that will enable them to make sound decisions;

PLO 9: Exercise initiative, personal responsibility, and accountability;

PLO 10: Show leadership in the professional environment/workplace; and,

PLO 11: Demonstrate positive attitudes and social responsibility.

PLO 12: Construct a teachable attitude, including giving and receiving constructive feedback.

PLO 13: Develop the physical and emotional limits of professional relationships in the media field.
