Announcement about Safe and Drug-Free Schools:

Our supervisory union is a recipient of federal funds. As such, we must assure that we will continue to provide a drug-free workplace by:

  • Publishing a statement notifying employees that the unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensing, possession, or use of a controlled substance is prohibited in the grantee's workplace and specifying the actions that will be taken against employees for violations of such prohibition;
  • Establishing an ongoing drug-free awareness program to inform employees about
    • the dangers of drug abuse in the workplace;
    • the grantee's policy of maintaining a drug-free workplace;
    • any available drug counseling, rehabilitation, and employee assistance programs; and
    • the penalties that may be imposed upon employees for drug abuse violations occurring in the workplace.

Please also read your school's drug and alcohol policy for more specific information regarding the above topics. The policies are listed below. Please note: All of our school boards updated their Alcohol and Drug Free Workplace policies during the 2015-16 school year, so the policies posted below are still relatively new to us.

Furthermore, all employees are eligible for support through the Employee and Family Assistance Program, EAP. EAP assistance can be accessed at www.freeassist.org or 1-800-287-2173. Rack cards and magnets with EAP information are available at our schools and were made available to all employees when Invest EAP presented at the WCSU inservice day on August 22, 2017.

Note: The following comes from the FY18 Consolidated Federal Programs Assurances published in September 2017: "As a condition of employment under the grant, the employees will abide by the terms of the statement[s above], and notify the employer in writing of his or her conviction for a violation of a criminal drug statute occurring in the work-place no later than five calendar days after such a conviction. Notifying the agency, in writing, within ten calendar days after receiving notice from an employee or otherwise receiving actual notice of such conviction. Employers of convicted employees must provide notice, including position title, to [the Director of Grants and Contracts Services of the U.S. Department of Education and must take one of the following actions within 30 calendar days]: Taking appropriate personnel action against such an employee up to and including termination...; requiring such employee to participate satisfactorily in a drug abuse assistance or rehabilitation program...; making a good faith effort to continue to maintain a drug-free workplace through implementation of the above."
