Giving back to our community

One of Stonewall Sports Boston’s key objectives is service to our community, which is actively met by donating to nonprofits providing services important to the LGBTQ+ community and volunteering with local organizations.  Throughout the year, Stonewall Sports Boston participates in a variety of service projects, providing time and energy to local nonprofits. 2023

Dyke March - $5,000 Donated

Since 1995, the Boston Dyke March has remained committed to offering a non-commercial, intersectional, and fundamentally grassroots alternative to Boston’s Pride celebration. We strive to elevate voices marginalized in society and even within the lgbtq+ community.

Community Servings - 12 Hours of Service

On April 5th, 4 Stonewall volunteers worked with Community Servings in Jamaica Plain to serve free, medically-specific meals to members and families in our community impacted by HIV/AIDS, cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and more.

Cradles to Crayons - 20 Hours of Service

Cradles to Crayons is a nonprofit that addresses both local and national childhood poverty by providing free resources to families and their youth, most notably clean and high quality clothing. Leading up to the service project, Stonewall Sports Boston collected and then donated 4 bags of clothing to Cradles to Crayons. On May 6th, 10 Stonewall volunteers spent the morning sorting and packaging clothing for youth at the Giving Factory.

Ethos LGBT Programs - $5,000 Donated

Ethos is a private, not-for-profit organization that promotes the independence, dignity, and well-being of the elderly and disabled. Ethos achieves its mission through the coordination and delivery of high-quality, affordable home and community-based care. In all aspects of its work Ethos supports family caregiving, fosters social interaction and respects cultural diversity.

Gay For Good Boston mobilizes lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ+) and ally volunteers in the broader Boston community to promote diversity, foster inclusion and enhance LGBTQ+ visibility. We facilitate welcoming, inclusive service projects in support of a wide range of causes throughout Boston and the surrounding areas, and we look forward to meeting you.

Greater Boston Food Bank - 10 Hours of Service

On February 11th, several of us spent the day volunteering at the Greater Boston Food Bank. Together, we succeeded in boxing up 4 containers of family meals.That's enough to serve over 800 meals!

Health Innovations - 53 People Tested

Health Innovations is a free health clinic servicing the Boston metro area and beyond, offering no cost HIV/STI/Hep C testing, and connection to medical and mental services. Health Innovations partners with Stonewall Sports Boston to provide free testing at sporting events.

LGBTQ Senior Living -$4000 Donated

A non-profit whose stated mission and raison d’etre is to facilitate access to welcoming, safe, and affordable housing for low-income LGBTQ seniors, including through a formal role in the development of such housing; to define onsite housing services and programming that addresses the needs of LGBTQ seniors; and to support community space to serve seniors in the Greater Boston community.

LGBT Asylum Task Force - $4000 Donated

The LGBT Asylum Task Force is a church ministry formed in 2008. They welcome LGBTQ people of all faith traditions as they provide housing, food, and connection to legal, medical, and mental resources at other local agencies. Asylum seekers are not allowed to work for up to two years after arriving in the US. The vital ministry provides comprehensive support for the entire duration of that two-year period in which it is needed.

QT Library - $5,000 Donated

QT Library is a Boston-based team of queer and trans artists, educators, librarians & LGBTQ+ community members passionate about building community through resource-sharing, program-making, and BOOKS!

Rosie's Place - $2000 Donated

Rosie's Place offers a safe haven for LGBTQIA+ women and overnight shelter and other services to those in need who self-identify as female.

Roxbury Youthworks - $4000 Donated

Roxbury Youthworks, Inc. (RYI) opened a new program, Being United In Leading our Destiny, called BUILD. BUILD serves cis-gender males, trans and gender nonconforming youth who are at high risk or have been commercially sexually exploited and/or or suffered a sexual assault.
Strides for Action is the latest evolution of the AIDS Walk, which was started in 1986 by AIDS Action as a way to help people living with HIV (PLWH) live better lives and prevent new HIV infections.

Trans Resistance MA (TRM) empowers Trans people of color and builds off the work of the Transgender Emergency Fun, the only organization dedicated to supporting low income and homeless Transgender individuals in Massachusetts.

Victory Programs: The Boston Living Center - 13.5 Hours of Service

Victory Programs’ Boston Living Center (BLC) is a nonprofit community and resource center that fosters the wellness of individuals living with chronic health conditions including and beyond HIV, individuals who are experiencing housing and/or food insecurity, and those who are isolated. The BLC responds to the changing needs of its community through education, treatment information, and support services.

2022

AIDS Action Committee: Youth on Fire - $6,310 Donated

Youth on Fire (YOF), a program of AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts, is a drop-in center for homeless and street-involved youth, ages 14-24, located in Harvard Square, Cambridge. The center offers basic necessities, as well as prevention information on HIV, STDs, Hepatitis C and other diseases associated with high-risk behavior. YOF has onsite hot meals, clothing, showers, and laundry facilities, as well as weekly medical care, mental health counseling, and referrals to community resources. The ultimate goal of YOF is to help as many youth as possible to have a healthy lifestyle, remain HIV-negative, and seek greater stability through permanent housing, employment, or school.

The Boston Alliance of Gay Sports (“BAGS”) seeks to promote and encourage unity and collaboration among the recreational and competitive LGBTQ+ sports leagues in the greater Boston area through cooperation, social activities and service to the community. BAGS strives to foster a safe and inclusive place for members of the various sports leagues to work to achieve common goals, promote shared events and encourage involvement in the LGBTQ+ community.

Boston Harbor Now’s mission is to ensure that Boston Harbor, its waterfront and islands are accessible and inclusive and that these special places are properly adapted to the risks of climate change.

Lowell Youth Activities Program - $500 Donated

The Lowell Youth Activities Program, Inc. (LYAP), is a non-profit affiliate of the Lowell Housing Authority (LHA). It is an IRS 501(c)(3) tax exempt 509(a)(1) public charity. Run by voluntary Board Members, from varying backgrounds, the Program’s mission is to aid in the advancement of Lowell Public Housing and Section 8 youth. Each year the Program awards an average of $15K in college scholarship funds to LHA youth pursuing a higher education.
