FOCUS ON FOUR AT JUNIPER HALL

YEAR FOUR IS BACK ON THE PREMISES AFTER A FABULOUS SCHOOL JOURNEY TO JUNIPER HALL. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME WE HAVE USED THIS VENUE AND IT PROVED A WONDERFUL SUCCESS. WE SHARE WITH YOU AN EXTENDED PICTORIAL ROUND-UP OF THE SCHOOL JOURNEY - FOR MORE PICTURES TURN TO PAGES TWO AND FOUR... A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU TO MISS MOWBRAY, MRS GROVESNOR, MRS MORRISON, MRS LAMPRELL, MR DALE AND SPECIAL GUESTS MRS BACHOUR AND MRS MULHOLLAND WHO ACCOMPANIED ON THIS FABULOUS TRIP. WE HAVE LOVED HEARING ABOUT IT IN SCHOOL THIS WEEK. ALL THE STAFF HAVE BEEN REPORTING ON THE EXEMPLARY BEHAVIOUR OF THIS FABULOUS GROUP OF CHILDREN. YEAR FOUR YOU WERE AMAZING AMBASSADORS FOR ST STEPHEN'S ON YOUR VERY FIRST SCHOOL JOURNEY. WE CALLED ON MRS GROSVENOR TO GIVE US HER LOWDOWN ON THE TRIP. HERE IS HER REPORT ...

We arrived very hungry on the Wednesday afternoon, eagerly awaiting our lunches. Fed and watered, we were now ready to meet our Juniper Hall tutors who taught us how to use a compass. A skill we would soon rely on. We then navigated our way into the Surrey Hills for a climbing session up what felt like Mount Everest. Once we reached the summit, we gazed down on the beautiful national park. It was well worth the hike!

Our next task was to go on a rummage in a bid to collect natural resources, such as pinecones, sticks and stones. Essential ingredients for the next job which was to create our very own national parks.

The promise of cake was the only incentive needed to keep the children going! With aching limbs after our climb, we arrived back at Juniper Hall for the eagerly awaited treat!

After being asked at least one hundred and fifty times who was going to be in whose dorms, we finally went to our rooms to break the highly anticipated news. There was much excitement as beds were made. Myself and Miss Mowbray then started a production line for the children who had tried so hard but sadly failed to make their own beds. However, we soon all worked together to get those beds ready. Children, we think you are now all equipped with the skills to help make the beds back at home! Well done.

18:00 - Dinner time! We all enjoyed a delicious pasta and bolognaise feast, with a mouth watering desert of ice cream and brownies to follow. The kitchen staff were fabulous, offering up second helpings, which were snapped up in a matter of seconds.

At 19:00 we had our first evening activity - the mini Olympics. The weather kept us indoors for these, which was quite a challenge, but we persevered! Children were split into countries and each team member had to participate in one sport which consisted of the relay, javelin (using plastic straws), shotput and 100 metre sprint. Spain won the title and were very vorciferous in victory. Well done Spain!

We then had a bed time story read by the one and only Miss Mowbray with a delicious cup of hot chocolate.

There was no lie in the next morning .... it was a 6am start for the teachers and most of the children, as the excitement of the day was too much to keep us in bed! We were all raring to go for our second day's activities.

We started the day with a hearty breakfast of cereals and traditional fry up, again there were seconds available for the hungry crowd!

Next up we were reunited with our Juniper Hall tutors for our first task of the day, orienteering. In groups of six the children had to navigate their way around the site, using only a map and their thinking caps. Many group members were lost in the process as the determination to get the task's twelve stamps became a top priority. The St Stephen's staff team was so impressed with their concentration and dedication.

After an exhausting cardio session, we had a quick snack break and then it was back to honing our map skills.

12:30 - Lunch time, the children ate the delicious sandwiches they had freshly prepared that morning.

13:30 - Activity Two. We walked into the local village of Mickleham and looked at how the land is used there compared to back home in St Margaret's/Twickenham. By four o'clock we were ready for the next, highly awaited cake break.

16:00 - We arrived back at Juniper Hall to a delicious feast of chocolate chip cakes. Myself and Miss Mowbray then decided to join in a game of ultimate tag with the children, a decision we would later regret. The children were just too good.

18:00 - Dinner time! A scrumptious repast of chicken and rice!

19:00 - Campfire, with songs and marshmallows. I think the marshmallows were definitely the winners! What a delicious and fun end to our day.

20:30 - It was then the much anticipated Story Time with Miss Mowbray (Winnie the Pooh).

21:00 - Bed! We are pleased to report that after the day's activities our children slept very well.

Friday

Breakfast - 08:15 - another hearty feast!

09:30 - Sadly, the last activity of the trip; shelter building. We took yet another hike to the top of the pictureseque Surrey hills and this time found our way into a forest. After splitting into groups of six, I somehow became on honorary member of one. Maybe the children thought I was good at building because I was an adult, but alas Miss Mowbray and her team were victorious. With her background in survival techniques, I think Miss Mowbray had the edge on me! However, all the shelters were fantastic and to find out if they would survive a storm, we had to climb into ours and were doused in water....

13:00 - Another delicious lunch and it was sadly time to start the journey back to St Margaret's : ( It was an amazing trip. Our staff team enjoyed it just as much as the children. Thank you Year Four, we are so proud of you.

YEAR FOUR LADS SCOOP THE CUP

Huge congratulations to Thomas, Albert, Jake, George, Findlay, George, Sebastian and Alex who won the final at the recent Epsom and Ewell Under 9s football league tournament. The boys, who regularly turn out for the Moormead FC under 9s team, clinched victory with a 3-1 score at the final whistle. Goal glory was theirs. Marvellous achievement boys.
