FAREWELL MRS MOODIE AND THANK YOU
FAREWELL MRS MOODIE AND THANK YOU
We hate goodbyes, but the time has come to bid farewell to our fabulous art teacher, the lovely Susan Moodie. She is returning to her native Scotland and we will miss her. She has had such an impact on the quality of art provision at St Stephen's and is the designer of the magnificent mural in our playground. Goodbye Mrs Moodie and thank you.
BACK AT THE CHURCH FOR EASTER!
BACK AT THE CHURCH FOR EASTER!
It's been two long years, but we were back with a bang at St Stephen's church this week for our Easter service. For many of our children and staff this was the first visit to the church and they loved it. Year Four retold the Easter story for us and our amazing school orchestra accompanied the singing with such musical virtuosity. Thank you so much to Rachel, Lauren and the St Stephen's church team for making us feel so welcome, our parents and carers for being such a supportive audience, our children for their tuneful singing and the Year Four team for putting together such a professional show. Special mention also to musical maestro Mr Wilford (ably assisted by Mr Munn and Miss Cooper) for getting our orchestra 'show ready'. As Mrs Bachour said, "It was marvellous." It set us up nicely for the Easter holidays. Our whole team would like to wish our children and parents a restful holiday and see you for more of the same on Wednesday April 20th. Please note that Tuesday 19th April is an INSET day.

Well done to the Year Four boys whose Moormead FC team reached the final of the cup competition in the Under 9s section of the Epsom and Ewell Football League. Huge congratulations lads!
FIRE OVER ST STEPHEN'S
FIRE OVER ST STEPHEN'S
Yes, okay, we'll be upfront with you. Last week we did set fire to some of our children's work in the playground. On the face of it such an action does appear to contravene our Health and Safety policy and, indeed, our school motto, where we pledge to 'Build Each Other up in Love and Learning.' But let us explain. As part of their learning on the Great Fire of London, our Year Two children built their own replica C17th cardboard and paper houses. We then thought it would be fabulous to add a spot of drama to proceedings by setting said dwellings alight to give the children a feel for how quickly the fire that originated in Pudding Lane whipped through the city. At the time it was a veritable tinder box as most of the buildings were constructed in highly flammable wood and tightly packed together. Our fire was on a much more modest scale. Safely managed, with fire extinguishers and a myriad of safety precautions in place, our children watched from a safe distance. It was a real 'awe and wonder moment' and our children loved it. The houses we burned were done so with the permission of the children who built them. We absolutely promise no children or staff were hurt in the burning of these cardboard homes!
