SCIENCE (5th grade)
Mon 8/28 - last week we discussed what is science. Today we discussed different types of scientists and what their jobs might entail. We also learned 2 definitions: investigation and science. Observation chart completed on comparing shaving cream to shampoo.
Tue 8/29 - 2 new definitions: evidence and conclusions. Parts involved in investigations: observe, infer, opinion. HW - finish science crossword puzzle
Wed 8/30 - A Sticky Trap reading and activity in google classroom. HW - based on the picture in the article in google (the tarantula) make a chart with 1 observation, 1 inference, 1 opinion
Thur 8/31 - *If the chart was not turned in today, then it should be completed on paper and turned in tomorrow. Today we learned and practiced using Kami, which will be the program that google classroom assignments will be completed in
Fri 9/1 - Knowledge Grows reading in google classroom; meet the scientist - botanist/taxonomist, order & classification
Mon 9/4 - no school - labor day
Tue 9/5 - finish classify & order; complete Sum it up ws
Wed 9/6 - hurricane pop quiz (info from STEM on Tue 9/5); Science process - complete ws in kami and turn in via google classroom
Thur 9/7 - No internet today for the majority of the day due to Comcast outage so no homework unless yesterday's was not completed
Fri 9/8 - went over Wed homework in google classroom and reviewed how to open assignment, complete assignment and turn in the assignment via google classroom
Mon 9/11 - review study guide, review science process in google classroom; read models in google classroom and be prepared to discuss tomorrow
Tue 9/12 - reviewed models pages from homework reading; HW - in google read the observations pages and complete the two questions in kami - don't forget to turn in from google classroom
Wed 9/13 - STUDY for test
Thur 9/14 - TEST
Fri 9/15 - experiments reading/discussion - terms learned: hypothesis, variable, control
Mon 9/18 - review variable & control; went over what will happen for our lab set up tomorrow
Tue 9/19 - freezing liquids lab - we will start in science and finish in stem
Wed 9/20 - discussed the results and conclusions of our solution freezing experiment yesterday
Thur 9/21 - picture data; examples of how we could turn our lab data into a picture; rm 312 HW graph the temps provided (pic posted in google classroom; graph the orange temps)
Fri 9/22 - NO SCHOOL
Mon 9/25 - 312: sum it up ws began in class and to finish for HW - the readings posted in google classroom (science process, models, observations & experiments) need to be referred to in order to answer the worksheet questions; 10 question quiz tomorrow on our lab (freezing water temp, controls, variables, investigations, experiments) - no study guide as this is based experiments readings and class discussions on lab
Tue 9/26 - QUIZ IS POSTPONED TIL THURSDAY (finished i-ready math diagnostic) 312: apply concepts ws / 307: sum it up ws
Wed 9/27 - 307: quiz review; apply concepts ws / 312: quiz review / BOTH classes - quiz tomorrow on freezing temps and info in the readings posted in google under experiments - know the difference between control and variable, freezing temp in C and F, processes of the lab we completed
Thur 9/28 - quiz on freezing water solution lab and what was learned from it
Fri 9/29 - Begin ecosystems
Mon 10/2 - ecosystems reading in google classroom; HW- complete the biotic vs. abiotic chart using kami and then turn in via google classroom
Tue 10/3 - populations and communities
Wed 10/4 - read populations, niches; HW - finish reading niches and diversity and complete on paper to turn in the red hawk question, nice niche and habitat change questions

Fri 10/13 - finished new vocab: succession- primary (ex: worn "dead" conch shell, rock) & secondary (ex: banyan tree in Lahaina)
Mon 10/16 - finish reading natural changes(posted Fri 10/13); Read next please(posted today); HW: EdPuzzle - no password needed, scroll down and sign in with google
Tue 10/17 - Field Trip - pay attention in the class at accelerated speedway.....you might be quizzed on some info
Wed 10/18 - "for better or worse reading"; compare/contrast chart in notebook showing helpful and harmful-how can a beaver's dam be helpful and harmful? This was started in class and HW was to finish so the chart showed 5 helpful and 5 harmful
Thur 10/19 - invasive species reading; HW - apply concepts worksheet
