Websites and Apps

There are a plethora of websites and apps designed to help kids experience music. Here are some of my favorites. Please work with your adults at home when navigating the internet and downloading apps to make sure it is done safely.

Websites:

Chrome Music Lab

  • So many fun things to explore! Some will make sense, some will not. Experiment with several and find your favorites. I happen to like "Rhythm" and "Kandinsky."

Creative Kids Central

  • Learn about different kinds of ensembles (groups of musicians) and genres (kinds of music). Play the games to interact with the music.

Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra

  • Go on a musical safari to collect the instruments of the orchestra.

New York Philharmonic

  • Play games, learn about composer, learn about instruments, meet some members of the New York Philharmonic, and create your own instrument.

Word Warrior

  • Spell words by using notes on the staff.

Classics for Kids

  • Learn about composers, play games, listen to music and more.

Apps:

Xylophone:

  • There are many xylophone apps. Search your app store for xylophone and see which one you like. I like "Xylophone: Marimba, Vibraphone." This is what you see me use in class.

Recorder:

  • When searching for recorder apps search for "recorder instrument." Otherwise you will get voice recording apps.

Note Names:

  • Staff Wars - blast the notes by selecting the correct letter name

  • Noteworks - Help the muncher munch notes by selecting the correct letter name

Rhythm practice:

  • Rhythm cat - practice reading rhythms and keeping the beat.
