Haibane Renmei

"To know your sin is to have no sin."

Haibane Renmei ("Charcoal Feather Federation") is the story of the Haibane, a group of vaguely angelic-like humans who are born into the world via cocoons. In particular, the story follows the newest-born, Rakka, and her adventures around the town of Glie, a town which none except the mysterious Toga may enter or exit.

Anime: complete. (13 episodes, subbed.)

Thoughts

Although it crosses the line between touching and sappy quite frequently, the anime has a few moments, and Reki is definitely a fairly interesting character; probably more deserving of the protagonist title than Rakka, although the latter is needed as an audience surrogate.
