History

The Victoria Axemen's Council was formed in 1970 to unite and promote the sport of Woodchopping in Victoria.

The first official woodchopping competition took place in 1870 in the Tasmanian town of Ulverstone and was the result of a pub bet between a Tasmanian local and a Victorian visitor.

A popular feature of regional and royal shows the sport of woodchopping has continued to grow and now includes national as well as international competitions.
