I submitted the following letter to the editor of the New York Times on 8 Oct 2017, although they did not print it:

• Bravo for Rachel Botsman's description of her young daughter Grace's interactions with Amazon's Alexa, and for her decision to retire Alexa to the closet.
  • Ms. Botsman describes Grace asking, "Alexa, what should I do today?" and "Alexa, what should I wear today?" Children who ask such questions will grow up to ask, "Alexa, should we regulate the AI industry?" and "Alexa, who should I vote for?"
  • Enjoy free choice while it lasts. It's almost over.
