* Router & VSK5 Configuration

Paolo what you made is really good, lets me thank you again :)

From PAOLO (alex)

I fought for many days, in the past, trying to figure out how to let the N.A.T. (Netwok Address Translation) works to be able to host a race. After many researches on the web, finally I made it! As I am not an expert, I was very happy to be able to do that.

To let it work, You have to be sure that your Internet Provider allows You to have a public IP address (almost any Provider does so), You can find it on http://www.myip.net. You, also, have to assign a static (fixed) IP address to your PC (not automatic) and it has to be done by changing net-card options.

Here is my configuration. I really hope it can help You.

(Before all, you have to send an "ipconfig/all" comand in the comand prompt of Winsdow to copy the initial configuration of your web-card)

Router configuration:

I attach screenshots of my Pirelli modemrouter, You should find more or less the same options on your router:

LAN panel or whatever concerning your LAN options:

1) In LAN IP set the IP of your router (in my case 192.168.1.1), Subnet is related to IP (in my case 255.255.255.0), DHCP "enabled";

2) In IP Address Pool set a range of IP addresses managed by DHCP Server (in my case from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.19),

Note: it is fondamental that router IP and PC IP (this one You will set it later by changing your net-card options) are out of this range (in my case: router 192.168.1.1 and PC 192.168.1.20).

NAT panel or whatever concerning your NAT options:

1) "Of course" If You have an option to enable NAT, please set it to "enable" (as You can see, Pirelli router does have it).

Virtual Server panel - You should find something like "Virtual Server" or just "Server" under NAT options or any place:

1) At your static (fixed) PC IP address (You will set it later by changing your net-card options -, in my case 192.168.1.20) open ports 2350 and 3450 both Lan (private) and Public with TCP & UDP protocol;

2) I do not remember when (maybe when I was playing VSK3), in some place on the web I read that I, also, had to open port 8767 with UDP protocol. Maybe it is not necessary, but I did it the same for VSK5.

End of router configuration.

Net-card configuration:

I attach the screenshot of my Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet card using Microsoft windows 7 operating system:

On properties of Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) of your net-card configuration options set the following values:

1) Use following IP address (static - fixed, not automatically);

- IP address = Set your PC IP static (fixed) address - remember that it has to be out of the range of DHCP Server that You set on former router configuration - (in my case 192.168.1.20);

- Subnet Mask = it should come automatically once You insert your static (fixed) IP adress (in my case 255.255.255.0);

- Default Gateway = Set IP address of your router (in my case 192.168.1.1).

2) Use following DNS Server (selected, not automatically);

- Default DNS Server = set your Internet Provider default DNS Server value - You can find it searching on the web (in my case "Tiscali" 213.205.32.70) or from the initial web-card configuration you copied in the first step;

- Alternative DNS Server = set your Internet Provider alternative DNS Server value - You can find it searching on the web (in my case "Tiscali" 213.205.36.70) or from the initial web-card configuration you copied in the first step;

End of net-card configuration.

VSK5 configuration:

I attach the screenshot of VSK5 net configuration:

On net tab of VSK5 configuration panel set the following values:

- Server port = set 2350;

- P2P Server port = set 3450;

- Client port = set 2350;

- Broadcast lenght port = set 20;

- Use local address = set "yes" (V);

- Force Server Address = set your IP public address, You can find it on http://www.myip.net (in my case 94.37.228.47 - port: 2350)

End of VSK5 configuration.

After this new configuration, if VSK5 still gives You the message "Attention, You are connected to a private net. If You do not correctly configure the NAT other players on the Internet could not connect to the race", do not pay attention to it. Go ahead ... start your race ... and wait. Many times the message is wrong.
