This website has been created by club member Keith Harvey using Google Sites which, although somewhat limited in features is very easy to use, and best of all its FREE. Yes - FREE

There are online tutorials on how to get going with Google Sites. (Just be aware that there is an older Google Sites system called 'Classic Sites' that Google is phasing out so some tutorials you find might be relating to this older system.)

• The Zapier site has a whole tutorial about Google Suite, including a free downloadable ebook at the bottom of that site. This section of their site is how to build a simple site with Google Sites 

There are also many YouTube videos on Google Sites, a couple of good examples using the new google sites are :

• New Google Sites for Beginners video 

• A tutorial by Flipped Classrooms on getting started with your first website  He also has a full playlist of videos about Google Sites

• A playlist of 31 short videos by Steegle, a longtime expert at building google sites.

A downside of google sites is the long winded URL that you wind up with (this sites URL is https://sites.google.com/site/torontocroquetclub/home ). One way to get around this is to use a URL shortener or redirection site to create a better custom looking one. eg www.tinyurl.com  allows free custom names so www.tinyurl.com/torontocc will redirect you to our site.

Of course you can always get a proper website name but its a yearly fee to keep it, usually $15-$20/year. Its called a 'domain name' and two places you can get that at is Crazy Domains or GoDaddy  Its a bit geeky to setup but there are plenty of 'how to's' on google.

Another free website host and builder that you might consider is a Wix site - it has more features and flexibility but does have small adverts on it unless you pay a yearly subscription.
