Frasers Gully Sandstone

This is located in Kaikorai Valley (top end) and is part of the Frasers Gully walking track to Brockville. From the carpark at the end of Frasers Road (beside Ellis Park). More of intrest rather than a collecting site.

Follow the walking track which runs up the valley beside Frasers creek. After a few minutes the track begins to climb, and then a levels out at a small bridge crossing a side stream. As you climb upwards you will begin to see isolated areas of white sand both in the stream and along the track. On the right handside of the track, banks give way to cliffs of white sand used by many people o dig holes or carve their names.

This white sand was caversham sandstone but over the years ( millions) the calcerous (lime) in the sandstone has been removed/leachated out leaving a fine white sand micaceous sand.

This material has no fossils.

This same material can be seen in Stone street and at the Lookout Point Quarry.
