Argentina

Man Meets Mountain, Mendoza

Malbec. £9.60. Packed full of blueberry, blackcurrant and plum and a complex and delicious finish.

Manos Negras, Malbec, Uco Valley, Mendoza

Manos Negras focuses on and cultivates 50 year old Malbec vines in the prized Altamira appellation in the Uco Valley. Malbec is the undisputed signature grape from Argentina. The high altitude desert oasis of Mendoza has provided the ideal conditions for this once minor French blending grape to unfurl its strengths unlike anyhere else in the world.

Malbec. £13.90. The bright sunny days give a deep blackish colour and dark fruit flavours while the cool mountain nights produce violet aromas and a soft, supple texture.

Malbec. £25.00. The inclusion of a small percentage of Cabernet Franc intensifies the floral layer of the Malbec creating natural elegance that reminds us of an old world wine.

Santa Rosa Estate, Mendoza

Malbec. £10.20. Deep coloured with a very alluring nose filled with very ripe blackberries and a hint of blackcurrant jam. The sweet fruit is lush and mouth filling, ripe and dense with some savoury and spicy notes. A beautiful purity of fruit and real flavour with a good tannin structure making it the perfect accompaniment to red meat dishes. A superb example of Argentina's national wine.

Santuario, Mendoza

Malbec. £9.60. Classic Malbec. Plum, blueberry and blackcurrant with plenty of complexity and a harmonious finish. No oak treatment. 66% of the Malbec is from Vistalba and 34% of the Malbec is from Medrano

Vina Cobos

Cabernet Sauvignon "Felino". £17.00. Luján de Cuyo & Valle de Uco, Mendoza.

IWC Gold Winner. Wines of Argentina Gold, and 91 parker points!

A dense garnet colour accompanies an earthy nose, rich with aromas of cassis, mocha and lavender. The palate is bold and complex, weaving black currant and boysenberry with graphite and sweet tobacco. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Malbec "Felino". £17.00. Luján de Cuyo & Valle de Uco, Mendoza.

James Suckling 92 Points. A juicy and savoury red with dried berry and iron. Some rust. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Has some backbone and structure. Drink or hold. JS, 92 Points, March 2019.

Zuccardi – Mendoza

“Series Q”

Malbec. £19.00. A fleshy ripe malbec with a touch of dark spice on the finish. Full-bodied and smooth. Great price for such quality. The 2010 Q Malbec (100%) was aged in French oak for 12 months. Inviting scents of cedar, Asian spices, lavender, and black cherry lead to a plush, dense, layered, pleasure-bent Malbec

Tempranillo. £19.00. Dark ruby with a lovely nose of red fruit, currant and dried cherry, wood spice, leather and chocolate. Palate shows raspberry, cherry, currant, cedar and spice with juicy acidity and grippy, dusty tannins. Medium weight and finish, I would have easily guessed a quality Rioja. Food pairings: roast leg of lamb, suckling pig.

Viognier "Malamado" - dessert. £12.95. Zuccardi's Malamado port style wine has attracted many followers but here is something really different! Wonderfully aromatic, peachy viognier lightly fortified to produce a rich, unctuous dessert style wine.
