Maps

When traveling anywhere off-road -car/truck or motorcycle- be sure to have more than one reliable map on hand. Carrying a compass is also advised. A GPS is a good accompaniment, but not infallible. Many folks have lost their way relying on GPS alone, sometimes at the cost of a life.

Two of the favored maps for Texas riders are:

    • The Roads of Texas

    • Texas Atlas and Gazetteer

For those riders interested in more than just whizzing by on the roads and wish to explore the state, other good books to have on hand are:

    • Ed Syer's Backroads of Texas: The sites, scenes, history, people, and places your map doesn't tell you about.

  • The Biker's Guide to Texas: 25 Great Motorcycle Rides in the Lone Star State
