Searching the Literature

You can search the literature for papers that concern sustainable water resources by using Google Scholar. First, go to this link:

http://scholar.google.com/

You can also find a great deal of information about how to use this service by searching on Google Scholar in your regular search engine. Pay special attention to Search Tips for details about how to construct better searches.

Next, sign in with your e-mail and a password that you create, so Google knows where to send the information that you request.

Unless you want patent information, click to remove that option.

The next step is to set up the parameters of your search. Click on the Advanced Search to see more options for doing this. This will include submitting keywords to conduct the search.

Submit your search. You will receive results for a typical search. Now look along the left hand side of the results for an icon that says Create Alert. Click on that to create a periodic alert that will carry out a new search, perhaps once per week, and send the results to your e-mail.

You should at this point have created a periodic alert. Click on the Alerts icon at the top of the Google Scholar page to see details about the alert that you now have in place. You can cancel the alert at any time, as long as you are signed in.

Unless you wish to remain signed in, don’t forget to sign out of Google.
