The signs are up and the Queensland based property developer is renaming the site of John Reynell's and the State's first commercial vineyard to "Peppercorn Grove". I'm not sure about the room to grow bit
I don't know where they get these names from. The nearest peppercorn tree is in the front yard of the property next door, and with the average block size of the new estate at around 330 square metres, there is barely enough room for a house, let alone a peppercorn tree or two.
Looking north from Reynell Road towards the location of John Reynell's original home, we can see the now, neglected vineyard. The hard work put into the vineyard by John Reynell, Thomas Hardy and countless others has been in vain. In the words of singer/songwriter Joni Mitchell;
"You don't know what you've got till it's gone"
