Kacey's Stirling Engine5/20/2012 Kacey is a High School Senior who recently built a Quick and Easy Stirling Engine as a Senior Science Project. Good work Kacey! Congratulations! This is the beginning of a collection of Stirling engines built by people like you. If you have built a Stirling engine from one of Jim Larsen's books you are invited to send in pictures or videos of your finished engine and they will be added to the Stirling Engine Hall of Fame! Energy Week 2012 in Norway: Quick and Easy Stirling Engine4/13/2012 Hello!
We have now finished our project building stirling engines – and it was successfully. The pupils were very satisfied about getting the engines to work. Some of them were really fast, and some of the slow. But most important: it was working! Altogether we made 25 engines, and half of them were working. The reason for some of them not working was because the pupils didn’t were careful enough when they were doing the work. Here are some pictures and short movies that show our work: http://www.sentralskolen.no/elev/9.trinn/stirling/stirling.html Thank you so much, Jim. Without your help we wouldn’t made it this good. Have a nice weekend. Linda and Frode Norway LTD Stirling Engine #1 by Tim Simmons, UK12/31/2011
Hi Jim,
I thought you might like to see the video of my version of your LTD Engine 1. I want to thank you for giving me the impetus to try such an interesting project. I've wanted to make a Stirling engine for years, but do not yet have a lathe, so your design was just what I was looking for. Have a happy new year, Best Regards, Tim
Building the Quick and Easy Stirling Engine at the Urban Assembly Academy of Applied Math and Science2/12/2012 Jim,
The projects came out decently... My students had a great time learning about the engines and seeing the one little engine struggle along!... I started this project about 6 weeks into the semester and I think it could work with my high school juniors and seniors. I will most definitely try this again next year... I'm afraid I still have some optimisation to do, but I have got it to run as shown in the attached rather shaky video clip. I have so far been using a couple of nightlights to get it going, but I'm sure that I can reduce this with a bit more tuning! I really like this design, it's quite hypnotic in operation!
