Singing the Goddess

...song circles and workshops

Easy songs, chants, and rounds, with some more complicated pieces thrown in just for fun.  It all depends on the folks involved and how much time we have.  You don't need to read music; you don't need to think of yourself as a singer.  All genders welcome.

What does it mean to be singing the Goddess?

It means singing the Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Spirit that are Her -- that are Her Body, Breath, Energy, Blood, and ineffable Spirit, the elements on which we all depend for life.

It means singing the phases of the Moon -- New, Waxing, Full, Waning, and Dark/New again -- that are the phases of life: Death/Birth, Maiden, Mother, Crone, and back to the space between death and life.

It means singing Her many names: Jane, Mother Earth, Grandmother Moon, Amy, Isis, Yemaya, Michelle, Astarte, Cybele, Sue, Athena, Sophia, Stasa, Inanna, Diana, Jennifer, Hecate, Demeter, Kate, Spider Woman, Kali, Laura, Kore, Rhiannon, Morgan...

It means singing in your voice.  Even if you've been taught you can't carry a tune in a bucket, even if you've been taught that women should be quiet, you have a voice, and your voice is sacred.

Song of the Soul: Singing the Goddess on Northern Spirit Radio

At the end of the week at FGC Gathering 2011, three other members of my workshop and I were interviewed for the Northern Spirit Radio show Song of the Soul about the workshop.  It's about an hour long; check it out here
