Kirwani is a musical scale in Hindustani classical music. It is an Indian raga specially suited for instrumental music. The scale is the same as the harmonic minor in western music. There are shades of Pilu in Kirwani.

There is no strict Vadi-Samvadi, but Re, ga and dha are important.

It is generally accepted that there is much sadness in this melody. While preceeding from Shadj (S) to Pancham (P), a touch of Komal Gandhar (g) or a smooth passage from Komal Gandhar (g) to Pancham (P) expressed as SgP is the more common way of instant Raag manifestation.

This Raag is said to be adapted into Hindustani music from Carnatic music. This Raag is used in instrumental music very often. This Raag is very playful in nature so it is used in Thumri style compositions and also in movie music.
