Today was a lesson in perseverance!

East Lomond was sat in low cloud when we arrived so we headed to Pillars of Hercules early doors. After a couple of hours we headed back up the hill and saw no change, we thought we will give it until 1pm. No change, then Mike told us they didn’t get flying at Horcum last time out until 2ish so we thought we had better tough it out until 2pm. Low and behold, just as we were all cold and ready to go home, it cleared! We couldn’t very well go home after waiting all that time so off we went up the hill.

There was definite front sitting over Bishop Hill so we were keen to get going but George was stuck in about with his tranny looking for his FS3 model memory. Eventually he gave up and we got going in winds of about 6ms. I just scraped under the 60 second mark for both of the first two runs with Mick just over the 60s mark and Dave with one over in his first run and a good 58 in his second. Mike stepped up and knocked a couple of seconds of both my runs so was in a good position after the first two rounds.

I did the same again in rounds 3 and 4 but then the wind dropped a bit for Mick and Dave who flew mid 6o’s. The clag was coming in fast at this point and it just wasn’t sensible for Mike to fly so we stopped and waited. Having waited so long for it to clear, it seemed unlikely that it would lift again but about 15 minutes later it did allowing Mike to fly. I was fully prepared for Mike to take a historic win but the wind had remained pretty poor and Mike flew a 63 and a 65 to miss out by a whisker. The results were:

1 Peter Gunning 2968.47

2 Mike McCracken 2919.64

3 David Watson 2803.82

4 Mick Walsh 2686.16

FTD Mike McCracken 56.21

It turned out George had deleted his FS3 on Monday night while having a ‘clear out’ on his tranny (as you do!). But he buzzed very well indeed for those of us who don’t do our programming with a bottle of red ;0)

So quite a long day for just 4 rounds but good to get another result on the board in what has been a reasonably successful winter league (relative to the rest of the UK anyway!).
