COMPLETED PROJECTS
RESEARCH
American Cancer Society Lakeshore Division Postdoctoral Fellowship
• "The Interplay Between the DNA Mismatch Repair and Translesion DNA Synthesis."
• 02/2014 – 02/2017. Principle investigator: Shanen M. Sherrer.
• Project goal: to observe the interactions between DNA mismatch repair and translesion DNA synthesis pathways during a potential crosstalk event.
American Heart Association Great Rivers Affiliate Predoctoral Fellowship
• “Mechanistic Investigation of Bulky Lesion Bypass Catalyzed by Y-Family DNA Polymerases.”
• 07/01/2009 – 06/30/2011. Principle investigator: Shanen M. Sherrer.
• Project goal: to determine the potential mutagenic effects of an air pollutant-derived DNA lesion at the molecular genetic and kinetic levels when bypassed by human Y-family DNA polymerases in vitro.
Robert H. Edgerley Environmental Toxicology Summer Fellowship
• “Mutagenic Investigation of Bulky Lesion Bypass by a Y-Family DNA Polymerase.”
• 07/01/2008 to 09/30/2008. Principle investigator: Shanen M. Sherrer
• Project goal: to sequence the kinetic bypass products of a bulky DNA adduct catalyzed by the Y-family DNA polymerase from Sulfolobus solfataricus.
TEACHING
Protein Society Member Mini-Grant
• “Career Pathways in Protein Science.”
• 02/01/2017 – 06/30/2017. Principle investigator: Shanen M. Sherrer.
• Project goal: to provide underrepresented students with an overview of protein science and to introduce them to career pathways in the field.
Protein Society Member Mini-Grant
• “Protein Science for Young Scholars.”
• 08/01/2013 – 06/30/2015. Principle investigator: Shanen M. Sherrer.
• Project goal: to engage underrepresented middle school girls in an active learning experience in protein science during the 2015 Sisters of Nia Girls’ Summer Enrichment Camp.
